Meet Eric Garfinkle

JD, PsyD

As a former attorney turned clinical psychologist, I understand the high-pressure demands of achieving success in NYC and the challenge of creating balance in how we work, love, and play.

These pressures can feel overwhelming, making it difficult to break free from the cycles that prevent you from feeling satisfied. It can be hard to imagine a different future when you are stuck in the familiar patterns that have been holding you back.

Therapy To Help You Live With Purpose and Clarity

I work with professionals who are high achievers yet still feel unsatisfied with important aspects of their lives. They often excel at pleasing others and meeting societal expectations while serving as their own harshest critic. As they move into adulthood, they realize that, despite some remarkable accomplishments, they do not feel the joy of their imagined success. This leaves them confused and unsatisfied and can get in the way of forging more meaningful connections with others.

Having trained in insight-oriented (psychodynamic) and behavioral psychotherapy models, I have gained a profound understanding of how the experiences we have during our most formative years shape the adults we become. Yet, my clinical experience has also taught me that while gaining insight into our developmental past is imperative for growth, our healing takes place as we make meaningful changes in our everyday lives. In this respect, I view therapy as a bespoke experience tailored to each client's unique needs and ambitions.

I work with clients who experience:

  • Anxiety

  • Social anxiety

  • Depression

  • Relationship and family issues

  • Career challenges

  • Life transitions

  • Communication challenges

  • Grief and loss

  • Cannabis addiction

  • Personality disorders

  • Men's Issues

My Values

My highest value is providing an empathic and judgment-free space for you to explore your life experiences. My first priority in cultivating this space is understanding your life through your unique point of view.

Empathy

Empathy is more than a therapy buzzword: It is the heartfelt, active process of trying to understand your experience from your point of view. As such, I focus on providing a judgment-free space for you to reflect on all parts of yourself.

Authenticity

Many people struggle to find an identity that feels authentic and sustaining. I help you explore your true selves without pretence or conformity, fostering a deeper sense of self-acceptance and empowerment.

Personalization

Our life experiences vary greatly, and a one-size-fits-all therapy approach may not effectively address your needs. Therapy that is tailored to your experiences, challenges, and goals increases the likelihood of meaningful and lasting outcomes.
